When it comes to adventure, loyalty and friendship, there is not better film to talk about than Steven Spielberg's The Goonies. During the 80's, Spielberg oversaw and produced many projects, this one being one of my favorites. The story follows a group of kids that embark on a treasure hunt on their last day living in "goon-docks," in order to save their homes from becoming a menacing country club. The treasure belongs to One-Eyed Willy, who had his men set up booby traps all around in order to keep explorers from getting to his treasure. Following close behind, a family of dangerous thugs, The Fratellis, are hoping to find the treasure as well when they realize what the kids are up to. When the children reach the gold, they learn they've gained something much more than wealth-- confidence and growth. As a child, watching this movie made me feel powerful, like my age didn't matter and I could accomplish anything I set my mind to. I think this was the general giveaway of the film, and Donner did an incredible job getting this message through. The misadventures and booby traps force the kids to work together and bring their unique abilities to the table in order to move forward. This is a true classic.
