“You’re tearing me apart, Lisa!”
Often regarded as "The Citizen Kane of bad movies", the room is an instrumental example of how not to make a movie. This is the first, and thankfully, the last movie Written, Produced and Directed by Tommy Wiseau. This guy barely comprehends the english language and looks like a vampire, how can this ever go bad? Growing up I used to catch glimpses of this movie on this extremely weird late night show Mystery Science Theatre 3000 but never really watched the whole thing till I was in college. The first time I watched this movie I was a bit confused so I did my research. I came across a book written by Greg Sestero, Tommy's friend and actor in the film, detailing everything about Wiseau's production from before it was even conceived. Titled The Disaster Artist, the book helped me understand the film to its full capacity. I don't want to lose credibility for writing about this movie, not that I have much anyway, but if you are a filmmaker and you can't appreciate this celluloid catastrophe, then you should probably go watch a superhero movie instead. The film's horrible dialogue, the ghastly performances, gargantuan plot holes, lack of production value and soap opera style turned this picture into a cult film over the past few years. From what Wiseau thought was going to be an oscar-nominated film, a really shitty black comedy was born. It was almost as if a Lewis Skolnick wrote this screenplay in high school trying to make himself look cool when he actually has NO FUCKING IDEA what cool is. Although Wiseau's vision did not come to fruition in an conventional hollywood way, we sure as hell thank him for it.
