So yeah, I know I'm a little late but I finally got to catch a matinee of Jordan Peele's Get Out this afternoon. When I first saw the trailer, I was a bit confused as whether the film was meant to be a comedy or a horror film. My favorite director, De Palma, was actually perfect at mixing this two genres. With his visual talent, De Palma knew exactly how to fuse satire and thriller, so I was a little skeptical and didn't think Peele, a known comedian, was going to be able to pull this off. Hitchcock once said there is a fine line between horror and comedy, and he was right because Jordan excelled at making this film stand. One of the most interesting things of the film was how the known cast have mostly appeared in comedies as well. Although I saw the M. Night Shyamalan "twist" coming right from the first scene (which I'm not going to ruin), the film managed to surprise me when the reason as to why everything was happening is revealed. It definitely pays homage to The Stepford Wives among many other horror films and has a not so underlying message towards racism. The power of the scenes and the thought behind this movie, from beginning to end prove that Jordan Peele is not only a comedian but a true student of CInema.
